A little about Black and Wadhams - Jim Wadhams, Jesse Wadhams and Amy Shogren
Jim Wadhams is a founding partner of the firm and practices primarily in the areas of government relations, taxation, healthcare and insurance law. He has practiced in Nevada since 1975. He served as the Nevada Commissioner of Insurance and Director of the Nevada Department of Commerce, in addition to setting up the state’s first industrial development bond program. Jim’s extensive knowledge of the executive and legislative processes has assisted clients in accomplishing a wide array of legislative and regulatory changes including authorization of workers’ compensation insurance by private companies, substantial improvements in construction defect law and the creation of a nationally recognized standard for mining reclamation. Jim was recently named Administrative/Regulatory Law “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America 2024, Las Vegas. Lawyer of the Year honors are awarded annually to only one lawyer per practice area in each region.
Jesse A. Wadhams is a partner in the firm and opened the Northern Nevada office of Black & Wadhams. He concentrates on the representation of clients before state agencies including the Division of Insurance, Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Minerals, Division of Environmental Protection, Gaming Control Board and the Tax Commission. He also represents clients before the Nevada Legislature, advocating positions and developing legislative priorities for clients with a myriad legislative issues. Jesse has been recognized as one of the top regulatory attorneys in Northern Nevada over the past 10 years by Nevada Business Magazine.
